An animal rights group is calling on the Monterey County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to investigate an incident in which, the group says, hair spray and glitter were applied to the faces of bulls during this year’s California Rodeo Salinas.
Steve Hindi, the president of Showing Animals Respect and Kindness, wrote a letter to Monterey County SPCA Executive Director Gary Tiscornia and its director of operations, Lisa Hoefler, claiming that spraying “a substance” on the bulls and then having glitter poured on them is a violation of California Penal Code 597(b) — Malicious Mischief — Cruelty to Animals.
“The bulls were obviously upset, and repeatedly tried to escape the torment to which they were subjected,” Hindi wrote in the letter. “The bulls were then released into a pen with a rodeo clown.”
