Support SHARK's Hard Work Fighting for Animals - Please Click Here to Make a Donation

May 17, 2019

DEAR FRIENDS,

SHARK is very pleased to announce that Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has signed legislation that would extend indefinitely the moratorium on cownose ray killing contests in the state!  We want to congratulate all our partners in the "Save the Cownose Rays Coalition” who worked hard on this effort.

SHARK investigator Stu Chaifetz attended the signing and spoke to legislators present. What was clear was that our dramatic video from two years of these disgusting slaughters was absolutely critical to not just getting this issue the attention it deserved, but to spur legislators to take action.

SHARK fought for the rays hard and we were unrelenting in our efforts against the bowhunters who slaughtered these majestic animals en masse.

SHARK's video of rays being beaten and killed, and the public outrage of it, is the reason why the legislature took action

This is the third major victory we have announced this week, with the other two being successful campaigns against the Denver Post for sponsoring the deadly Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo with a train ride that is now no more, and of the Autism Society of the San Francisco Bay no longer involved with the vile Rowell Ranch Rodeo.

Please help us celebrate all these victories and the more to come with a generous donation. The truth is, SHARK is in desperate need of funds.  We will be speaking to you more about this next week, but we truly need your help now.

In our last update we told you of a new campaign to get the Girl Scouts of Central and Southern NJ to disassociate themselves from the cruel Cowtown Rodeo.

Please watch our newly released video HERE or on Facebook HERE.

This horse crashed to the ground after being electro-shocked at Cowtown

Anyone who watched our video and saw the brutality inflicted upon innocent animals was appalled that the Girl Scouts would be part of it. What added even more to our cause was that announcers and clowns at Cowtown have sometimes used sexist and misogynistic language.  We showed that with shocking clarity with a clown saying the following joke:

“Why did the woman cross the road?”

“Who cares? What’s she doing out of the kitchen anyway?”

How then did the Girl Scouts respond to this?  They wrote the following to us and many of our supporters:

We have no comment on the issue.
Thank you, Terri Mohr
No comment on the cruelty and sexism at the rodeo they are endorsing? Absolutely disgusting.

Please politely write to the following officials from the Girl Scouts USA, the parent group of the NJ Girl Scouts, and ask that they take action to sanction the Girl Scouts of Central and Southern NJ for their unethical behavior and for betraying the girls they claim to represent. Please ask them to disavow the Cowtown Rodeo. By having “no comment” on such a serious issue, the Girl Scouts are violating everything they claim to stand for.
