Horse Tripping, For Your Viewing Pleasure

A reader sent me a link to this article on the rodeo “sport” of horse tripping. Sounds like fun doesn’t it? A rousing good time for the whole family! Let’s see people purposefully trip horses by snaring their legs with rope and see the horse flip ass over tea kettle as his momentum is suddenly halted. Absolutely. That, to me, sounds better than a round of mini golf!
Apparently, horse tripping has a long, rich history. A long, rich history, that is, of being considered abusive by people who care about the well being of these horses trying to get it banned. Back in 1995, The New York Times ran an article on it, espousing the event’s Spanish heritage and also the dangers and risks to the horses.
At a recent rodeo event held in Jordan Valley, OR spectators cheered enthusiastically as horses were tripped and body slammed by gravity – their cheering escalating withe severity of the horse’s fall. Goddamn, humans are a blood thirsty bunch.
